Newborns, at whatever age we happen to pick, know when it’s picture time.  Every last one of them (well, maybe not Aurie, she was out the WHOLE time) know we would like them to be sleeping and they decide that at that moment they would rather be wide awake!  Usually, I just embrace it and we shoot some wakeful pics, then let the babe nurse and hope they go back to sleep.  It works most of the time 😉
